Whats this town about? Never heard before.

Sungai Lembing, a special town holds the world's largest, longest and deepest underground mines. They have Malaysia's oldest suspension bridge, the great sunrise overlook on Panorama Hill, the History Museum, Rainbow Falls and a number of popular local foods.

Sungai Lembing is a small village in Pahang, Malaysia, Kuantan District. In 1900, when Pahang Consolidated Company Limit (PCCL), a British-based business, set up a tin mining industry following the beginning of mining operations in 1885.

Sungai Lembing had antiques and old style roads, electricity, bungalows, schools, offices, supermarkets, restaurants, theatres, a gas station and a hospital.

With the opening of the Sungai Lembing Museum and subsequent government funding, Sungai Lembing was revitalized as a heritage tourist attraction in the Pahang region and had drawn a significant numbers of tourists.

Perfect for Day Trip

The size of the town makes it the perfect location for people to travel to Sungai Lembing on a day trip. With plenty of historic and beautiful places of nature to visit without a long drive apart.

There are 2 options to get there:

1. By flight and bus: Take a domestic flight from any major city in Malaysia to Kuantan, the capital of Pahang. You can find buses from Kuantan bus terminal to Sungai Lembing (hourly service).

2. By car: The ride from Kuala Lumpur begins. Ride the East Coast Highway to Kuantan on Karak Highway. After 3 hours, you can drive through a toll plaza. The next 30 minutes will be left (just follow the directions to Waze or the road signs).

Perfect Sunrise and Sunset View

What is better than starting the day with a morning hike? Take a look at the spectacular view of the sunrise on Panorama Hill, where you can see the stunning layers of clouds in front of you.

Panorama Hill is about 290 m in height. This is the location where we get to the lovely sunrise after 45 minutes of trekking (depending on longevity and speed). Even if it's not my first glimpse of the dawn, we all expect the magnificent atmospheric phenomena eagerly.

There are staircase for you to use and follow up to the top of the mountain. Remember to set your alarm and update your weather forecast before your start your hiking.

Jambatan Gantung Kolong Pahat is a hanging bridge that was constructed in the British era. Fun fact, this bridge is more than 200 years old. But the best part is that the bridge still stands strong and usable for us to experience the hanging bridge!

Many of the visitors visit the bridge as it is interesting to take a shot of it and the food you can purchase on the other side of the bridge in the village.

Back In The Old Days

Sungai Lembing was once a mining area. You could read more about it at the museum.

How the city existed in the early days, all the mining activities of the day, the massive flood of the 1920s, and how it influenced all 'bijih timah' transport and all the utensils used, and much more. If you enjoy historical things, this is a must!

It is located within 5 minits from the town and the entry ticket are super cheap as well with RM2 for Malaysian adult, and RM5 for Non-Malaysian.

Somewhere Over the Rainbow In Sungai Lembing

There is a rainbow waterfall located in Sungai Lembing. Why it is named rainbow waterfall? Check the picture out.

The name of the Rainbow Waterfalls is given because it shows rainbows when the sun hits the waterfall; usually every morning between 9 and 10 am.

With the short rainbow visibility, all visitors should organize a strict timing tour, so that they can arrive in time at the waterfall to see the beautiful rainbows.

The forest paths and roads leading to the waterfall require travellers to drive a 4/4 truck. Thus, if you don’t have a 4x4, tour packages are the best way to go.

It's nice to take the tour so you can reach the cascade in time. You will still love the ride and enjoy all the wonders of nature to admire along the way.

But Wait, There's More!

There are plenty more places around Sungai Lembing that are interesting to visit such as the old cinema, deer farm, and going into a real tin mines.

I will be covering all these and much more places around Sungai Lembing in my post next week, so STAY TUNED!

Also, COMMENT DOWN BELOW which of these four places you think are the most interesting and will you visit Sungai Lembing.
